Kigen is a technology company that develops operating software for SIM cards, eSIMs (embedded SIMs), and iSIMs (SIM functionality embedded within a chip) — collectively referred to as “Chips.” For these Chips to operate on a mobile network such as Onomondo’s, a unique profile must be created for each one. This profile contains network keys and identifiers (such as IMSIs, EIDs, or MSISDNs, collectively “Identifiers”), and the creation process is called data generation.
In addition to operating system software, Kigen provides server services like Subscription Manager Data Preparation (SM-DP+), which is hosted on physical or cloud servers and certified by the GSMA. When an eSIM or iSIM is activated, the device communicates with the SM-DP+ server to retrieve the eSIM plan details, enabling automatic configuration. SM-DP+ is essential for manual chip activation before use.
